The government-promoted centrally-controlled, price-fixed, third party first dollar coverage setup that represents the US medical payment system has led us to gross inefficiency, incredible waste of medical resources, outrageous high prices, and maldistribution of medical care. Attempts to extend this sort of system to every citizen through Obamacare will magnify these problems and will inevitably produce the bizarre result of shortages and rationing of resources by the system that is attempting to extend optimal medical care to everyone.
The liberal response to high cost maldistributed medical care for the majority, what we have now, is by government fiat to extend the same system to everyone. Self congratulations all around for good intentions but the results unfortunately promise to be dismal.
The conservative idea is to let the free market work its magic for the majority. Bring down prices. Return the choice of what is wanted and needed to the patient and doctor. Let the organization and availability of medical resources flow naturally and efficiently in the most appropriate direction. Get rid of the externally imposed impediments that are keeping so many of our citizens out of the system. And for the remaining unfortunates who can't or won't provide for themselves have a safety net, which is where the government comes in and not before.
